My Story

What does your relationship with food really look like?

For me, you could say it’s been a bit of a rocky road. So, I wanted to talk to you about my story and how it’s affected not only my relationship with food and my body, but with the people around me.

You see, I’ve always had a sweet tooth. But at the same time, I love being active and taking proper care of my body. Especially when I’m able to connect with nature and animals, my introverted personality really shines through. It seriously grounds my high energy life!

But after suffering for too long with tonsil infections, hay fever, fainting and fatigue, I was told that I was hypoglycaemic. With this diagnosis, I knew I needed to make some huge lifestyle changes, including cutting out nature’s sweet poison – sugar!

Though unfortunately, sugar is EVERYWHERE. Plus, it’s addictive, easy to find and extremely affordable. It dawned on me that this was going to be tricky.

natalie rose, nutritionist, personal trainer and wellness consultant

Before, I really enjoyed spending time to connect with my mum over tasty scones and a cup of tea! But my diagnosis meant I had to eliminate scones from my diet. My mum got upset and I began to realise that very often, it’s eating good food that brings people together!

I felt completely alone as all of my relationships changed due to my new diet. My best friend didn’t understand the sacrifices I made for my health and I was shamed at dinner parties.

Sure, the love and respect in my relationships was still there, but I had to break social standards to put my health and weight loss first. And only when you do that, can you be strong, healthy and fit enough to spend time with those you love – remember that!

So, what’s your story?

Stay safe and keep well
